Outdoor enthusiasts can now take on the wilderness with three new G-shock watches, designed to withstand harsh backcountry conditions and weather.

Part of G-Shock's 'Master of G' line, the all-new Rescue Yellow series is inspired by the expert work of rescue professionals. New versions of the Gravitymaster, Mudman, and Rangeman watches are designed for heavy-duty use in 'aviation, land, and outdoor environments'.

The new Mudman watch is designed for backcountry navigation, using triple sensor technology, including a thermometer, compass, and barometer to keep you on the right track.

The Mudman also features a vivid LCD display.

If you're looking for something a little more high-tech, the new Rangeman includes GPS that monitors your position, speed, and movement.

This top-of-the-range model is also equipped with an optical heart-rate sensor and nine performance modes to help you track your fitness in the wilderness.

Built for aviation professionals, the new Gravitymaster model features a sturdy carbon core guard structure and can be linked to the Casio app to send and receive up-to-date aviation information.

All three watches in the Yellow Rescue range are designed to survive in the wild, featuring shock resistance and water resistance down to 658ft (200m).

The Mudman and Rangeman watches are also mud resistant.

The Rescue Yellow series is available on the G-Shock website, alongside the rest of the Master of G line.

The Gravitymaster retails for $300 (£279), the Mudman is $400 (£379), and the high-tech Rangeman is $500 (£449).

Casio has unveiled a new limited edition NASA-themed G-Shock watch, but you'll have to win a contest if you want to buy it.

The new GW6900NASA24-1 is part of Casio's ongoing celebration of the first ever G-Shock watch, which went on sale 50 years ago. As Casio fan site G-Central explains, this particular model is based on the GW-6900 design, which dates back to 2009.

It's been a little while since we've seen a new celestial G-Shock (the last one was the limited edition MTG-B3000DN-1A, with a color scheme inspired by diffuse nebulae). The GW6900NASA24-1 is less flashy, with a black case and bezel that borrow their simple looks from the company's line of calculators.

Decoration comes in the form of a white NASA logo on the face, a backlight graphic displaying Newton's law of gravitation, and the same equation engraved on the case back.

"With space exploration relying on the principles of physics and mathematics, Casio's commitment to accurate timekeeping and advanced engineering mirror those endeavors," says Casio.

The watch will go on sale later this month for $170, but only contest-winners will be able to place an order. The competition is open now to Casio ID members in the US (check out the full terms and conditions on Casio's website) and entries close on Monday, July 22.

Casio’s G-Shock watches have a proud reputation for being chunky, rugged beasts. It’s one of their selling points. But if you’re running a marathon or doing an intense workout, you often don’t want something like the time-piece equivalent of a Sherman tank on your wrist. And that’s where the new slimline, more compact Casio G-Shock GBD-300 comes in.

It combines the fitness tracking abilities of the G-Squad GBD-H2000 with a slimmer, more compact body than traditional models to provide a more comfortable experience for intense exercise.

Comfort is further enhanced by a textured wristband that apparently prevents stickiness caused by sweat, while retaining a non-slip fit. The durable body is water resistant to 20 bar and – because this is a G-Shock with a reputation to uphold – uses two separate bezels to protect the main module from shocks that would damage ordinary watches.

It tracks everything you’d want from a fitness-geared smartwatch: distance, pace, steps, calories, etc. The selectable log view displays step count for each day of the week or running distance for the month.

Additional features include four alarms, a countdown timer, a stopwatch, and 38 world times.

Bluetooth low-energy connectivity with smartphones mean you can hear notifications of calls, emails, calendar events and social media posts (or you can just set the watch to vibrate). Used in conjunction with the G-Shock Move app, this gives you options to create training plans, log data and use GPS distance correction.

The GBD-300 is 48.9mm x 47.4mm x 14.9mm and weighs 60 grams. It is due to arrive next month in black (GBD-300-1), white (GBD-300-7), and yellow (GBD-300-9). Prices have yet to be announced.

Casio has unveiled a new 4th July themed G-Shock watch, and it's available to buy now in the US. The red, white (or, more accurately, silver) and blue DW6900US24-2 is a limited-edition watch that Casio says is "Inspired by the patriotic spirit and vibrant colors of Independence Day".

Although Casio is a Japanese company, it credits America with the G-Shock's success (the tough build means it's a particular favorite with sportspeople including American footballers), and the DW6900US24-2 is available exclusively in the US. 

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the new watch takes its design cues from the American flag. The bezel and band are made from blue resin, while the face features red accents and a silver mirror finish in the center. 

The case back is engraved with the American flag, and another flag is revealed on the screen when you hit the backlight button. It comes packaged in a star-spangled presentation tin.

Like all G-Shock watches, the DW6900US24-2 has a shock-resistant build, and is equipped with a stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, and flash alert. It's also water-resistant to depths up to 200m.

The watch is available to buy now direct from Casio for $130.

Casio has unveiled the first in a new series of G-Shock analog watches, made using a combination of titanium and an alloy four times harder called Cobarion.

The G-Shock MRG-B2100B-1A has the same octagonal face shape as the original GA-2100, with a case and bezel made from titanium alloy Ti64, which is known for its high strength to weight ratio, and is often used in aircraft and marine vessels due to its corrosion resistance.

The top of the bezel is made from Cobarion, which is even harder and is more commonly used in medical applications like artificial joints as it contains no nickel. 

The pattern on the face is inspired by Japanese kigumi, which is a traditional form of wood joinery that uses precise carving with no glue or hardware like screws or nails. This means the joints have some flexibility, which helps structures built this way to survive earthquakes. To create a similar effect, each of the watch's individually polished components has a small buffer for shock absorption.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, this is the first watch in the GA-2100 series with a full analog display, and includes automatic hand home position correction, so the hands aren't shifted by shocks. According to Casio, it should remain accurate to within 15 seconds per month. 

Its rechargeable battery should last around five months in normal use on a single charge without exposure to sunlight, or longer with solar charging. The lattice design of the face allows light to penetrate through to a photovoltaic layer underneath.

Although it's not a GPS watch, it does have Bluetooth connectivity. This means it can connect to the Casio app on your phone so you can more easily adjust its settings, set the time and location, and configure auto time adjustment. You can also use the watch to find your phone, provided it's within Bluetooth range.

The watch will be available to buy direct from Casio in June, with a price of ¥649,000 (approximately £4,100). International pricing and release details are yet to be announced.

Casio has revealed a new special edition G-Shock watch ready for summer, which comes with an inflatable paddle board for adventures on the water. The G-Shock DW-H5600MB-8 is packaged with the board, plus a UV-protective neck gaiter to keep you safe from the sun.

This isn't come cheap and cheerful paddle board, either. As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the set is a collaboration between Casio and US-based company Bote, which specializes in paddle boards, kayaks, floats, micro skiffs, and even floating lounge chairs. 

The watch itself is water-resistant to depths of 200m (making it well suited to watersports like paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkelling), with orange sunset patterns on the black resin strap, which is paired with a black resin case and ion-plated bezel.

Although it's not a GPS watch, the DW-H5600MB-8 uses its internal accelerometer to monitor runs and walks, providing data including distance, pace, and stride length. An optical heart rate monitor tracks your biometrics as you exercise, and allows the watch to calculate maximum heart rate, cardio load, and provide an estimate of calories burned.

Like most running watches, the DW-H5600MB-8 also tracks sleep to help optimize your post-workout recovery, monitoring sleep stages overnight (based on heart rate and movement), and giving you a score out of 100 in the morning.

The bundle is available exclusively in China for now, priced at 2,090 Chinese Yuan (approximately $300) direct from Casio.

Casio has announced that its summery G-Shock Beach Time Lapse Series, which were originally exclusive to Japan, will soon be available to buy in the US. Each watch in the series has a face treated using a vapor-deposition process, which creates a multicolored finish that shifts with the light and viewing angle.

The overall effect is reminiscent of sun on water, or light leaks created by gaps in the case of an analog film camera.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the collection includes three models: the classic round GA-110TL-7A ($140), the compact octagonal DW-5600TL-7 ($110), and the chunky GA-2100TL-7A ($110).

All three are shock-resistant and water-resistant to depths of 20m, and use bioplastics derived from materials like castor beans and sugar cane to reduce use of virgin petrochemicals. If the white cases and bands shown above don't appeal, all three watches in the collection are also available in dark gray, as shown below.

The three Beach Time Lapse watches will be available to buy direct from Casio later this month.

Casio has launched a set of three new G-Shock watches, including a new Frogman model, which take design inspiration from marine life.

The three are part of the company's ongoing Love the Sea and the Earth collection. Previous watches in the series have included a tough Rangeman watch inspired by polar bears and a bright green Mudman that borrows its color scheme from a rare stripy iguana.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the three new devices mark the 30th anniversary of the company's collaboration with whale and dolphin research organization ICERC Japan, and their white and gold color scheme is intended to signify both celebration, and the warmth of summer.

Like all watches in the Love the Sea and The Earth series, the three new G-Shocks all use biomass plastics in their cases and bands to reduce reliance on virgin petrochemicals, and come in plastic-free packaging (a recycled card box and cotton presentation bag).

The Casio G-Shock GMD-W5601K-7JR is a compact women's watch with solar charging for extended battery life (even under artificial lighting), a shock-resistant build, and water resistance to depths of 20m. Its case measures 45.7 × 40.5 × 11.9mm, and is engraved with the Love the Sea and the Earth on the back. It has a suggested retail price of ¥26,950 (approximately $170). 

The Casio G-Shock GW-6904K-7JR is also solar-powered and shockproof, and has a front button with an animated image of either a blue whale or a sperm whale. It measures 53.2 × 50 × 17.7mm, weighs 71g, and has a suggested retail price of ¥29,150 (around $190).

Finally, the Casio G-Shock Frogman GW-8201K-7JR is a dive watch ISO rated for depths up to 200m. It has a gold ion-plated finish and engraved screw-on case back made from tough titanium. It measures 52 x 50.3 x 18mm, weighs 84g, and has a suggested retail price of ¥79,200 (about $510).

All three will be available to buy in June. International pricing and availability has yet to be announced.

Casio has unveiled a pair of stylish new G-Shock watches with a striking design said to be inspired by "rocks and stones left on the untouched earth". The GMS-S5600RT-4JF and GMS-S5600RT-7JF are compact watches with a subtle marbled pattern and muted colors borrowed from nature.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the two new devices have a classic square shape reminiscent of the original G-Shock DW-5000C, but a slimmer case that slips more neatly under a sleeve. They are advertised as women's watches, but would be a good choice for anyone who prefers a more discreet design.

The GMS-S5600RT-4JF is a soft beige color, and the GMS-S5600RT-7JF is light gray. Sticking with the natural theme, both watches use bioplastics in the case and band to reduce reliance on virgin petrochemicals (though admittedly the amount used in a watch is very small). They also use solar charging for extended battery life, and can also be charged by artificial light.

Even without solar charging, you can expect the battery to last around 13 months in regular use, or 22 months in power-saving mode.

As you'd expect from a G-Shock, both new watches have a tough build designed to shrug off drops and knocks. They have a shock-resistant structure to protect their internal components, and have a water-resistance rating of 20ATM (for depths up to 200 meters).

You also get an LED backlight with super illuminator and afterglow function, time zones for 48 cities around the world, timer, stopwatch, and five daily alarms.

Both watches are currently available to pre-order exclusively from Casio's Japanese online store for ¥18,700 (about $120). International prices and release dates are yet to be announced.

Casio has unveiled a new special edition G-Shock watch, with a rainbow ion-plated (IP) finish and star-speckled band that take inspiration from colorful nebulae. 

The limited edition G-Shock MTG-B3000DN-1A is much more colorful than last year's galaxy-themed GM-2100MWG-1A Milky Way Galaxy Edition, which was released to celebrate G-Shock's 30th anniversary. 

The new watch is said to be inspired by the look of a diffuse nebula, which is cloud of interstellar dust and gas (mostly hydrogen and helium) without defined boundaries, which appears to glow due to ultraviolet radiation from nearby stars.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the watch's stainless steel bezel has a purple/blue IP coating, while the dial components are finished in metallic rainbow hues and capped with a sapphire crystal glass lens. The resin band is speckled with white, representing distant stars.

The MTG-B3000DN-1A is assembled by hand in Yamagata, Japan, and features Casio's signature Carbon Core Guard structure to protect the internal components from drops and knocks. It's water-resistant to depths of 200 meters, and the crown can be locked in place to keep out water and prevent accidental movement when you're wearing long sleeves.

It's not a GPS watch, but does have Bluetooth connectivity so you can adjust time zones and other settings via the Casio Watches app on your phone.

It will be available soon from Casio's UK website for £1,149, but the company has yet to announce pricing and availability in the US.

Casio has unveiled three new G-Shock Gravitymaster watches, with designs optimized for use in a cockpit and a design that takes design cues from the sleek lines of fighter jets.

The GR-B300 Gravitymaster series includes three colorways: the black GR-B300-1ADR with light gray/silver details, the black GR-B300-1A4DR with red accents, and the gray GR-B300-8A2DR with blue detailing.

Each one has Casio's shock-resistant Carbon Core Guard structure, which protects its internal components from knocks and drops, and employs a similar material to that used in aircraft fuselages. The case, bezel and band are all made using bioplastics derived from materials like corn and castor beans to reduce reliance on virgin petrochemicals, and the case is reinforced with carbon fiber for extra durability.

The wide face of each watch features three-dimensional hour markers, making it easy to read at a glance. The face also has a motorized disc indicator at the 9 o'clock park, which serves several purposes: rotating when you are using the watch's alarm on/off and stopwatch functions, and showing the current battery level.

Special features include a flight log, which you can use to document the current time and your location, plus a dual time display that can show the time at your departure point and destination. 

The new GR-B300 watches are all Bluetooth-enabled, and can connect to the Casio Watches app on your smartphone. This makes it easy to swap your home time with another time zone while travelling 

The GR-B300 will be available from g-shock.co.uk in May for £279.

Casio has unveiled a set of tiny rings modelled after some of its most popular watches from years gone by.

The little rings include miniaturized versions of the CA-53WF-1B calculator watch (shown above), the vintage-style gold A159WGEA-1, the sporty MRW-200HJ-1B, the button-strewn A100WE-1A, and the limited edition Casiotron TRN-50-2A, which is a recreation of the company's first ever wrist watch . There's also a sixth mystery model that's yet to be revealed, but as Casio fan site G-Central notes, its comparatively chunky silhouette implies it's a dinky G-Shock.

There's only one catch: as their tiny dimensions suggest, these aren't actual timepieces, and are purely decorative items for design fans. They are made to fit ring size 18, and will be available from capsule toy machines (gashapon) for ¥400, or approximately $3.

This isn't the first time Casio has released Lilliputian versions of some of its most popular watch designs. Last year the company debuted its first set of rings, including a perfect recreation of the classic octagonal AE-1200WH-1A.

If you want to get your hands on the new set, they appear to be on sale from Hong Kong retailer HobbyDigi with international shipping.

Casio has unveiled a new version of its Frogman dive watch, making the switch from resin and rubber to a full metal band and matching case. The G-Shock Frogman MRG-BF1000B-1A has the same asymmetrical case and screw-lock back as its predecessors, but a new build with premium materials.

The case and band are both titanium, made up of 70 individually polished components, with fluoro rubber buffers between the various bezel parts to absorb shocks from the front and sides, and an O-ring waterproof seal to keep out water at depths up to 200m.

There's a gold-plated retainer plate, and the case back is finished in tough sapphire crystal with a red vapor deposition coating, engraved with the distinctive Frogman logo.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the watch is also supplied with a second band in durable rubber, which is large enough to wear over a wetsuit during dives. To switch bands, just slide out the side pins while pressing the buttons on the underside of the watch's lugs.

In dive mode, the second and minute hands align to form a single hand, making it easier to track minutes spent underwater. Bluetooth connectivity allows you to adjust watch settings easily via your phone, and download tide data for over 3,000 dive sites worldwide. 

The MRG-BF1000B-1A is available now for $7,799 in Singapore, which is approximately $5,800 in the US. Pricing and dates are yet to be announced, but according to G-Central, an international release is expected later this year.

Casio has unveiled a series of four new G-Shock watches with a retro-futuristic design reminiscent of Tron and Blade Runner. The company posted images of the Multi-Fluorescent Accents watches on Weibo (the most popular social media site in China), though it didn't give any details of a potential release date or price.

The watches are all hybrids, with a small inverted LCD display set into a mechanical face. The watch cases all seem to be black resin, while the strap appears to be black silicone rubber.

According to Casio, the hands are the star attraction, accented with bright purple and turquoise to co-ordinate with the hour markers on each watch. The watch faces also feature contrasting yellow details for mechanical details like week markers and tachymeters.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, there are four watches in the range: the GA-110MF-1A, GA-B2100MF-1A, GA-700MF-1A, and GA-100MF-1A. The GA-2100MF-1A stands out as the only one with an octagonal face, and a red minute hand rather than purple. 

There's no information about a release outside China so far, but we'll keep our eyes peeled and let you know if and when that changes.

A new year means new G-Shock watches, and Casio has whipped the covers off 10 fresh designs that are currently available to pre-order in Japan, with international launches expected in the coming months. There's a kaleidoscope of colorways, from retro-futuristic neon shades to gritty, distressed metallics.

First, we have the Metallic Color Dial series, shown above, which includes two single-tone designs (the blue GA-110CD-1A2JF and green GA-110CD-1A3JF), and the two-tone gold and silver GA-110CD-1A9JF. Each one has a matt black resin band and bezel, with a combination of different textures used to highlight the individual components in the mechanical dial.

They have the usual set of basic G-Shock functions, including world time for 48 cities around the world, auto calendar, stopwatch, five alarms (one of which has a snooze function), and timer.

All three are priced at ¥18,700, which is approximately $130, but international prices and release dates have yet to be announced. 

Next, we have the Grunge Camouflage series, Casio fan site G-Central explains is inspired by grunge fashion from the 1990s. The two watches certainly fit with the current nostalgia for styles from 30 years ago, and would look the part when paired with a Nirvana hoodie.

The digital/analog GM-2100GC-1AJF and all-digital GM-5600GC-1JF both have a metal bezel that, according to Casio, has "been specially processed to create a pattern that looks like the metal has peeled off, expressing the coolness of grunge fashion." The GM-2100GC-1AJF is available to pre-order for ¥29,700 (about $200), while the GM-5600GC-1JF is ¥27,500 (about $190).

The Cyber Color series have a retro-futuristic look, using a combination of black and neon shades reminiscent of Tron. According to Casio, the design is "inspired by the world of science fiction, we adopted colors inspired by cyber and space." There are three versions to choose from: the black GA-B001CBR-1AJF with blue highlights, the blue GA-B001CBR-2AJF with yellow accents, and the translucent purple GA-B001CBRS-6AJF with pink highlights.

All three have Casio's Carbon Core Guard to prevent damage from drops and knocks, and are water-resistant to 200 meters. The GA-B001CBR-1AJF and GA-B001CBR-2AJF are priced at ¥19,800 (about $130), while the GA-B001CBRS-6AJF is ¥20,900 (about $140).

Finally, there's the G-Shock GMA-S110VW Skeleton women’s series, comprising the pink GMA-S110VW-4AJF and the blue GMA-S110VW-2AJF, which are available to pre-order for ¥20,900 (about $140). 

Both have white components within a translucent case "reminiscent of the world view of science fiction". The upper dial and indexes are finished with a metallic physical vapor deposited (PVD) coating.

Casio has unveiled a new iteration of its extra tough G-Shock Mudman watch, which takes its inspiration from the gritty desert stage of the Dakar Rally. The watch is a collaboration with Toyota

The catchily named Casio G-Shock Mudman Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body (aka GW-9500TLC-1) is based on a downsized version of the GW-9500, and is the first watch in the series with stainless steel bezel parts.

The watch's case is black with a black ion-plated (IP) bezel and red details borrowed from the Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport. The black resin band is decorated with a pattern of sandy brown spatters reminiscent of a rally car that's been put through its paces in the desert. To finish the look, the button guard has a co-ordinating brown IP finish.

Like many of the company's recent watches, it makes uses of bioplastics derived from castor bean oil and sugarcane to reduce reliance on virgin petrochemicals.

Inside, Casio's Carbon Core Guard structure protects against drops and knocks, while the exterior is mud-resistant, with buttons protected by stainless steel parts and fitted with gaskets to prevent ingress of dirt and water.

The watch features features a dual-layer LCD display, with the upper layer serving as a compass and the lower level showing the time, date, and other information. Turning on the backlight reveals a hidden Toyota Land Cruiser logo.

The GW-9500TLC-1 will be available to order direct from Casio on February 1, with a list price of £399 (about $500).

Casio has unveiled its first new G-Shock watch of 2024 – an updated Rangeman with GPS and a heart rate monitor, plus a shock-resistant and mud-resistant case for adventures in extreme environments.

The new Casio G-Shock GPR-H1000 is a true sports watch, with profiles for tracking activities including trekking, running, walking, biking, and swimming. It's also equipped with Casio's Tripe Sensor, which measures compass bearing, altitude/barometric pressure, and temperature – the latter of which is missing from most GPS watches currently on the market, and which is particularly useful for acclimatizing to training in hot conditions.

The optical heart rate sensor also detects blood oxygen saturation (how much oxygen is currently circulating in your blood compared to its maximum capacity), which can be affected by factors including your overall health, activity, and altitude. It's not intended for use in diagnosing illness or as a medical device, but can be a useful tool for helping maintain general health.

Rest is an important part of training, and the GPR-H1000 can monitor factors including sleep status, sleep recovery status, and autonomic nerve status (which gives a good indication of how well your body has recovered from your daily activities).

You'll also be able to see notifications from your phone via Bluetooth (including details of incoming calls, emails and text messages, social media posts), plus tide graphs and time zones.

Battery life is very impressive too. Real world performance will depend on how you use the watch, but Casio gives maximum times of around 14 hours in high rate mode (with continuous GPS and heart rate monitoring), and two months in watch mode with heart rate monitoring. 

The watch comes in two colors: the black GPR-H1000-1 and the yellow GPR-H1000-9. Both will be available to order direct from Casio on January 19, with a list price of £450.

Back in April 1983, Casio launched the very first G-Shock watch, the DW-5000C. It was matte black. It became an instant icon, and the G-Shock range has grown and thrived ever since, beloved of people who like their watch to say, “I get put through hell and love it” rather than, “I exude exquisite, genteel elegance”.

But 40 years later, Casio celebrates the anniversary of that launch with a G-SHOCK that brings some serious bling to the range, and a hefty price tag. But it still looks more like something Jay-Z would wear rather than James Bond. 

Welcome to the one-off G-Shock G-D001, with its 18-karat gold case, bezel and wrist band, and a design crafted with the help of AI. It went up for auction in New York last weekend, with an estimate of between $70,000 and $140,000, but eventually sold for an eye-watering $400,050. All proceeds were donated to The Nature Conservancy (they also recently teamed up with The Charles Darwin Foundation for another watch, as they seem to be on conservation drive at the moment).

This, of course, makes it the most expensive G-Shock ever – but can you dive with it on? That’s what we want to know.

So what’s the AI element in all this? According to Casio’s blurb, “This dream project features innovative, exploratory use of generative design – a computer-aided design technique that uses AI to optimize the design process – for the watch’s exterior design. A full-metal shock-resistant structure with a creatively original organic form was achieved using a process of co-creation between human developers and AI.”

Which doesn’t really tell us much. The New York Times claims that 16 designers dedicated two years to creating the watch, and Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe tells the newspaper that the (unspecified) AI platform was fed 40 years of data that G-SHOCK had gathered on shock-resistance technology. The designers the collaborated with SHOCK-absorbed AI to, “make an original piece with no parallel in the world”.

So presumably you can dive wearing it.

Interestingly, Kikuo Ibe (also known as 'the father of G-Shock') adds that, “The creative, original style of the exterior may offer a glimpse into the future of G-Shock.”

Somehow we doubt that means 18-karat gold for all future releases, though.

Christmas is coming and here’s the perfect present for that conservation-conscious animal lover who never turns up anywhere on time in your life. 

Casio, purveyor of super-tough chronometer range G-Shock, has teamed up with non-profit conservation group The Charles Darwin Foundation to create a trio of watches with a Galapagos Islands theme, complete with endangered wildlife embellishments (you did notice what was on the watches’ screens in the main image above, right?).

Each watch features a unique LED backlight graphic of a Galapagos animal and an engraved case back with a tortoise logo. And they are:

• The black and blue GW-B5600CD-1A2, with blue-tinted LCD display and hammerhead shark LED backlight
• The black and green GW-B5600CD-1A3, with green-tinted LCD display and Darwin’s finch LED backlight
• The yellow GW-B5600CD-9, with Galapagos giant tortoise LED backlight

In alignment with the green theme, all these models are made from bio-based resins and come in environmentally-friendly packaging. On the wristbands you’ll find the Spanish phrase, “Apoyo la conservación de Galápagos” which means, “I support the preservation of the Galapagos.” (Other eco-friendly outdoors brands are available.)

In terms of functionality, the GW-B5600 has the same functions as the full-metal GMW-B5000 and full-carbon GCW-B5000, including Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6 auto radio time adjustment and Bluetooth smartphone link. They measure 48.9mm x 42.8mm x 13.4mm and weigh 53g each.

This eco-minded trio is set to be released in Japan on 8 December 8, with a price tag of ¥26,400 each (that’s around $175 / £140), after which it’s expected to be released worldwide.

The Charles Darwin Foundation is an international nonprofit organization that operates the Charles Darwin Research Station. It is the first international organization to engage in conservation activities in the Galápagos Islands, starting in 1959. Currently, it has over 100 staff members from all over the world involved in a range of activities, including surveying the Galápagos Islands’ marine and terrestrial life and ecosystems, promoting island nature conservation efforts, and providing environmental education to local residents.

Casio is continuing the G-Shock watch's 40th anniversary celebrations with a pair of new full carbon takes on the original DW-5000C design.

The black GCW-B5000UN-1 and the purple GCW-B5000UN-6 both feature Casio's carbon core guard structure, which protects the watch's internal components from knocks and drops without adding undue weight, plus a carbon monocoque case, and band and bezel made from forged carbon. It's all topped off with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal display.

Carbon has several benefits for watches – particularly its light weight and attractive appearance – but it's also tricky to work with at such a small scale (as Garmin explained when it launched its new Marq Carbon Collection) and prone to chipping, requiring special manufacturing processes.

Like Garmin, Casio has opted for a laminating process for certain parts of its new carbon watches – specifically the folding arm of the clasp, which will be subject to particular stress in everyday use. The case is made from carbon fiber reinforced resin, and the bezel and band are molded.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, at just 65g each, the two new carbon G-Shocks are much lighter than their stainless steel and titanium counterparts, which are 167g and 104-106g respectively.

Looking closely, you'll see that the GCW-B5000UN-1 features a swirling design of black and gray, while the GCW-B5000UN-6 is rendered in purple and blue, scattered with flecks of powdered opal "for a mysterious appearance".

Both watches will be available to pre-order soon from Casio for $2,000, with delivery expected later this month.

Casio has revealed a pair of new G-Shock watches to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Dragon, which starts on February 10, 2024: one elaborate model rendered in black and gold, and a more affordable red resin version.

The G-Shock MTG-B3000CXD-9A, also known as 'Golden Armor Divine Dragon', has a bezel engraved with a scale pattern that continues onto the watch face, with a dragon motif on the back of the black ion-plated case.

Like other watches in the MTG-B3000 series, it's likely to be shockproof and water-resistant to 200m. It's not a fully fledged running watch, but will have Bluetooth connectivity for easily adjusting settings through Casio's mobile app.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the watch is expected to launch in China in November, with an exclusive braided bracelet and presentation box. It will be priced at 8,088 yuan (eight being the luckiest number in Chinese culture), which is roughly $1,100. An international launch is anticipated for December.

If your budget won't stretch quite that far, there will also be a more affordable alternative in the limited edition 'Blue Dragon' G-Shock GA-110CDY24-4A.

The watch is mainly red, with blue and yellow accents, including a band printed with designs representing a dragon soaring over the Four Seas. It will come packaged in a box with iridescent details, inside a blue and red dragon-print bag.

It has a list price of 1,290 yuan (about $180), though it's not yet clear whether it will be released outside China like its black and gold counterpart.

Casio has unveiled three new women's G-Shock watches with soft earthy tones and botanical patterns. The men's Natural Color series launched in September, with one digital and three analog models in shades of green and brown, and now they've been joined by a trio of devices for people with slimmer wrists.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the women's Natural Color collection includes three watches: the beige-toned GMA-S2100NC-4A, the soft pink GMA-S2100NC-4A2, and the mossy green digital GMD-S5600NC-9.

As usual, it's the little touches that make these watches special. The two analog models have a day of the week indicator at the 9 o'clock position shaped like a tiny basil leaf, and the face of the digital one is printed with a subtle botanical pattern.

The resin parts of all three are made using biomass plastics derived from castor oil beans, reducing reliance on virgin petrochemicals.

All three are available to order now from Casio in Japan. The GMA-S2100NC-4A and GMA-S2100NC-4A2 are priced at ￥15,950 (about $110), and the is GMD-S5600NC-9 is ￥13,200 (about $90).

Casio has revealed yet another new G-Shock watch as part of the iconic watch's 40th anniversary celebrations. The limited edition G-Shock MTG-B2000YR-1A is black with rainbow ion-plated details, which Casio says are inspired by the multicolored lights of a city after dark.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the watch's bezel is made from stainless steel with an IP coating, etched with an abstract city scene design, while the bezel frame is multicolored laminated carbon (visible from the side). The rainbow effect continues on the hour markers, hands, date display, and MTG logo.

The design is capped off with a black resin band and a curved sapphire crystal lens with an anti-reflective coating. It measures 55.1 × 49.8 × 15.9mm, and tips the scale at 104g.

On the inside you'll find Casio's Triple G Resist structure, which protects from drops, centrifugal force, and vibrations. The case structure is hollow, with strategically placed cushioning around key parts of the module to protect against shocks and soft silicone Alpha Gel to soak up vibrations. The watch hands are engineered and balanced to withstand forces up to 15G.

It's not a fully-fledged running watch, but its Bluetooth connectivity allows you to link it to the Casio Watches mobile app to easily adjust various settings or set up the 'find my phone' function.

The G-Shock MTG-B2000YR-1A is the second rainbow-hued MTG to launch this year. It will go on sale in Japan later this month for ¥187,000 (about $1,200), but there are currently no details of an international release or pricing.

Casio has launched yet another range of new watches to mark the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock, this time with full metal cases and bracelets, set off by a blast of color on the face.

The Polychromatic Accents collection includes new version of two classic models: the digital GMWB5000 (the first ever G-Shock watch) and the analog GMB2100. Both are available in two colorways, with silver or black ion-plated (IP) stainless steel, and purple/blue or red/yellow accents.

The GMB2100PC-1A has a silver stainless steel case and bracelet, with different shades of purple and blue on the hour markers, and green and red accents on the face. The GMB2100BPC-1A is finished in black, with fiery red, orange, and yellow details.

Both watches measure 49.8 × 44.4 × 12.8mm, and tip the scales at 165g. They're shock-resistant, as you'd expect, and water-resistant to 200m. Although they aren't fully fledged running watches, they have Bluetooth connectivity so you can easily adjust settings, set reminders, and set up the 'find my phone' function through the G-Shock mobile app.

The GMB2100PC-1A is on sale for $580, and the GMB2100BPC-1A is $630.

The GMWB5000PC-1 (silver) and GMWB5000BPC-1 (black) both have graduated blue/green colors on the face, achieved using vapor deposition to create an even, uniform coating. This is set off by red and blue accents on the digital face, mode indicators, and frame lines.

They measure 49.3 × 43.2 × 13mm and weigh 167g. They are also shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200m, with Bluetooth connectivity for tweaking settings via Casio's mobile app.

The GMWB5000PC-1 is on sale now for $580, while the GMWB5000BPC-1 is $630.

Casio's designers have been busy turning around new designs for the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock watch, and last week the company revealed a new G-Shock Mudman with a color scheme inspired by an endangered iguana.

The G-Shock Mudman GW-9500KJ-3JR is the latest addition to Casio's limited edition  Love the Sea and the Earth 2023 collection. It was made in collaboration with environmental charity Earthwatch, and had a bright blue and green striped look borrowed from the male Fiji banded iguana.

The iguana, which is around 7.5in long, is found only on the Fijian islands, and is most commonly found in wet forests where it forages for leaves, flowers, fruit, and occasionally insects. It's estimated that the animal's population has decreased by 50% in the last 35 to 40 years, and it is now extinct on some islands.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Fiji banded iguana is mainly at risk due to human interference, including habitat loss and introduction of new species (including rats and feral cats), and illegal animal trade.

A greener G-Shock

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the new G-Shock Mudman has a resin case and urethane band with a two-tone green design similar to the iguana's patterning. The front light button and its guard have a brown IP plating, similar to the color of the animal's eyes, and the Earthwatch logo appears on the screen when the light is activated.

The watch has a two-layer LCD display, with the upper layer serving as a compass and the lower level showing the time, date, and other information.

The band, bezel and case are made using biomass plastics that are derived from castor bean oil and sugarcane to reduce reliance on petrochemicals, and it comes in a box made from recycled card.

Casio has launched yet another new watch to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock, this time inspired by armor from feudal Japan, and featuring the work of Japanese artisans.

The G-Shock MRG-B2000SG-1A a limited edition design that incorporates elements of the Shougeki-Maru: Gai, a kabuto helmet the company's MR-G 'majesty and reality' range. Kabuto is a type of helmet used by ancient Japanese warriors, which became part of the traditional armor worn by the samurai class.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the watch has a case made from recrystallized titanium. The manufacturing process (also used in Casio's aptly named stainless steel Recrystallized series) involves raising the temperature of the metal to over 500°C to raise and stabilize the crystalline pattern, the applying a deep hardening treatment.

The bezel is decorated with a tiger design, which is hand-engraved by master craftsman Masao Kobayashi. Lab-grown rubies sit on top of four screw heads, one for each decade since the launch of the first G-Shock. Its white rubber strap is intended to represent the white strings used to hold the helmet's armor plates together.

Connectivity and battery life

Although it's not a GPS watch, the MRG-B2000SG-1A has Bluetooth connectivity, which lets it link to the G-Shock app on your phone. Here, you can easily tweak the watch's settings and change the location for world time.

The watch has a battery life of around five months in normal use, or 26 months when stashed in a dark drawer. The hands stop to save power when the watch is left in the dark, then realign themselves when exposed to light.

Unsurprisingly considering the amount of craftsmanship involved, the MRG-B2000SG-1A is a limited edition, with just 700 being made. It will go on sale in Japan next month for ¥880,000 (roughly $6,000).

Casio has unveiled a new limited edition galaxy-themed G-Shock watch, with a laser-engraved bezel and purple ion plating intended to give each watch a unique look reminiscent of the Milky Way.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock watch, and the company has been celebrating with a slew of special editions, but this latest design is part of a longer running series of space-themed designs that also includes the golden GM-2100MG-1A (which takes inspiration from the lunar surface) and the GM-110EARTH-1A (which is designed to resemble the Earth seen from space and comes complete with an astronaut helmet case).

The GM-2100MWG-1A Milky Way Galaxy Edition (based on the classic GM-2100) is a collaboration with China's Aerospace Science and Technology International Exchange Center. It will be sold exclusively in China at first, but Casio fan site G-Central anticipates an international release later.

The galaxy-inspired watch has a stainless steel case, decorated with swirling white specks representing stars, which also extend onto the dial and back of the case. The dial has a purple gradient physical vapor deposition (PVD) finish.

"The dark navy blue matte translucent strap realizes the infinite space of the universe," says Casio. "In addition, the back cover uses an all-black IP treatment and the Milky Way scene is engraved with laser."

The watch is water resistant to 200m, with a shockproof build, toughened mineral glass lens, and adjustable LED backlight. It isn't a GPS watch, but offers the usual array of features you'd expect from a G-Shock device, including world time for 31 time zones, automatic calendar, countdown timer, stopwatch, and up to five daily alarms.

Preorders for the new watch are due to start on October 25 via Casio's official Chinese site.

Sick of watches that look too shiny and new? Casio has a solution: a new G-Shock Mudmaster that looks like it's already taken an beating and been buried in dirt before you've even strapped it onto your wrist.

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, the new Cracked Mud Mudmaster GWG-2000CR-1A has just launched in China and the UK, and has a rough-and-tumble look inspired by the Grand Canyon. According to Chinese news site Tom.com, the watch's cracked and chipped appearance is intended to represent "strength and tenacity that cannot be erased by any sand, stone and dust".

The designs in the strap and and bezel are intended to represent the deep fissure of the canyon itself. Casio's UK site explains that "deep canyon cracks are echoed in the classic three-dimensional design of the large dial, creating a harmonious aesthetic".

As you'd expect from a G-Shock watch, the new Mudmaster is extremely tough, and won't actually chip and crack any time soon. The internals are protected by Casio's signature carbon core guard, and its case and buttons are dirt and mud resistant to prevent ingress of grime from all directions.

The watch costs £749 in the UK, which is roughly $960, but an official price and release date have yet to be announced for the US.

Casio has launched a new version of its classic G-Shock Mudman watch. The Mudman GW-9500, which seems to share some DNA with the Pro-Trek adventure watch, has a redesigned internal core guard structure to make it tougher than ever, and a design inspired by military equipment that shrugs off dirt, mud, grit and sand.

Casio has also upgraded the Mudman's digital compass. The GW-9500 has a dual-layer LCD display, allowing compass elements to be shown on the upper layer while the time and measurements are displayed underneath. It's also equipped with an altimeter and barometer, with graphs that can be shown on the face.

The new Mudman is available in three colors: rescue orange, military, green, and tactical black. Like many G-Shock watches released in recent years, its case, bezel, and strap are made from bio-based resins that are manufactured using sustainable materials like corn and castor beans rather than virgin plastic, reducing the need for petrochemicals.

All it buttons are protected by cylindrical stainless steel shock absorbers, and are chunky enough to use while wearing gloves, or with cold or wet hands. The backlight is easily accessed with a press of a convenient button a the six o'clock position, which is easy to find in the dark.

There's also solar charging, which tops up the watch's battery with exposure to any light source, whether it's sunlight or artificial lighting indoors.

It's the 40th anniversary of the first ever G-Shock watch, and Casio is celebrating by releasing a new version of the original timepiece in hardened steel, making it tough enough for outdoor adventures.

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, the new Recrystallized Series includes three colorways, and is inspired by the classic DW-5000C-1A from 1983.

The gold GMW-B5000PG-9 and silver  GMW-B5000PS-1 are made using a stainless steel recrystallizing and deep hardening process. Carbon is infused into the surface of the steel, resulting in a tougher finish than simply adding a coating.

The process also gives the metal an unusual look, which resembles flakes and is subtly different in every watch.

Both these watches also offer solar charging, 200 meter water resistance, and Bluetooth support. This allows them to connect to the Casio Watches smartphone app, which you can use to select time zones, adjust watch settings, and set reminders.

Casio has also launched the DW-5040PG-1, which takes the same design cues from the original G-Shock, but is made with a black resin bezel and band made using biomass plastics to reduce reliance on virgin plastics.

Casio has yet to announce prices for the new limited edition watches, but they are due to go on sale in April.

Casio has launched a new G-Shock watch that could be a serious rival to the likes of Garmin. The Casio G-Squad GBD-H2000 multi-sports watch includes an optical heart rate monitor, on-board GPS, automatic activity detection, sleep tracking, a blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor, and more besides, making it a viable rival to the likes of the Garmin Instinct series.

Watches in the Garmin Instinct lineup has always been notable for their chunky design reminiscent of Casio's G-Shock designs, and the GBD-H2000 gives fans of the look another option to choose from.

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the new watch is a successor to the GBD-H1000, and carries over many of the same features, including its LCD display, vibration alert, and automatic horizonal correction for its compass. What's new, however, is the addition of serious fitness-tracking hardware and software developed and licensed by the experts at Polar.

While Garmin first built its name in GPS tracking, Polar has always focused on heart rate monitoring. As such, its watches have some of the best biometrics in the business, and now that same tech is coming to wearables from other manufacturers.

Size and weight

The Casio G-Squad GBD-H2000 should also be practical for everyday wear, receiving smartphone notifications, logging your daily step count (complete with graphs), and tracking calories burned.

It weighs 63g, with a case measuring 59.6 x 52.6 x 19.4mm. That's a little heavier and larger than the Garmin Instinct 2, which tips the scales at 52g and measures 45 x 45 x 14.5mm.

The GBD-H2000 is scheduled to go on sale in Asia in March. Some of its more advanced features are still in development, but will hopefully be complete and ready to go by the time it launches globally.

Casio has shared a teaser image showing three new G-Shock field watches with octagonal 'Casioak' style cases and fabric straps.

The first pictures of the G-Shock GM-2100C Utility Metal Series leaked earlier this week, and German site WatchDavid.com shared an early hands-on video giving a closer look at each one. Soon after, the company posted a preview picture of the three, giving us a closer look at the case and strap of each one. 

As Casio fan site G-Central notes, these are the first watches in the GM-2100 series to feature fabric bands, which are more breathable and lighter than silicone. They also give the look of a more traditional military-style field watch.

Should you wish to switch to a rubber, metal, or leather strap instead, it looks like you'll be able to do that easily using quick-release levers on the case back.

All three watches have black faces and silver-colored analog hands with lume. The G-Shock GM-2100CB-1A has a black ion-plated bezel, black cloth band, inverted LCD display, and red accents. The GM-2100C-5A has a silver-colored stainless steel bezel, beige cloth band, positive LCD display, and silver and gold accents. The GM-2100CB-3A has a dark gray ion-plated bezel, khaki green cloth band, inverted LCD display, and green accents.

Pricing and release date information has yet to be announced, but we'll keep our ear to the ground and let you know when we hear more.

Casio has unveiled a set of six new tough outdoor G-Shock watches with colors and effects inspired by sparkling minerals. The Adventurer's Stone series were launched in Japan this week to mark the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock watch, and hopefully a global release will be on the cards soon.

According to Casio, each of the six new watches takes design cues from rocks traditionally used to help adventurers navigate on cloudy days, when their light-reflecting properties would help people determine the direction of the sun.

Five of the watches have a bezel with a rock-like texture, and the top and sides of each watch have a glossy hairline and mirror finish. Each one is decorated with colorful ion plating that mimics the look of a particular mineral, and is finished off with a coordinating resin band.

The six models in the new range are:

• G-Shock M-5640GEM: (rainbow and black sunstone design)
• G-Shock GM-114GEM: (gold and black calcite design)
• G-Shock GM-2140GEM: (blue cordierite design)
• G-Shock GM-S5640GEM: rainbow and white calcite design)
• G-Shock GM-S114GEM: (purple and black calcite design)
• GM-S2140GEM: (gold and white calcite design)

Details of international prices and release dates have yet to be announced, but Casio fan site G-Central explains that the watches are expected to cost more than watches with a plain metal bezel due to the more complex manufacturing process.

Navigating using sunstones and other minerals was an interesting process, and geologists have only recently discovered how it would have worked. According to a paper published in Proceedings of the Royal Society in 2011, the rocks were used to depolarize sunlight, dividing it into two parts. By rotating the rock until the two beams of depolarized light are the same intensity, early navigators would have been able to estimate the position of the sun quite accurately.

Details of a new sport-focused G-Shock watch have leaked, and it sounds like Casio might want to steal a piece of Garmin's lunch. The new watch, which hasn't been officially confirmed yet, is set to join the G-Squad range of sports watches (known as G-Move in the US), and include some interesting features that should appeal to runners in particular.

Casio fan site G-Central has shared details of a forthcoming device called the DW-H5600, which were posted on the Watchuseek forum by UK-based user kosutasu.

According to the leaked specs, the new device will include an optical heart rate monitor and step tracker, and although it won't have its own GPS module, it will be able to piggyback on your phone's GPS to track your location and speed during runs.

Solar charging

Images of the watch's case back reveal that it will have a memory-in-pixel {MIP} display, which uses less power than AMOLED for longer battery life, and is the same tech favored by Garmin for watches in the Fenix and Forerunner series,

The case back is marked 'water resist solar' but also has a connector for a USB charging cable, suggesting it won't be able to run on sunlight alone.

It is, however, expected to be made using biomass plastics. Casio often uses materials made from castor beans and corn oil to reduce use of petrochemicals, and it's good to hear that this is likely to continue.

Overall it sounds like an interesting package, though the lack on on-board GPS is a bit of a shame. Serious runners who like the chunky G-Shock style but want more accurate location tracking might be tempted by the recently launched Garmin Instinct Crossover instead.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original G-Shock Frogman diving watch, Casio has revealed a new special edition timepiece with a design inspired by Central American poison dart frogs. 

The new G-Shock Frogman GWF-A1000APF-1A was unveiled at an event in Japan, and first reported by Japanese tech site ITmedia, which got the full lowdown on the production process. The watch's multicolored bezel is made using layers of carbon and colored glass fibers, which give each unit a unique look.

The watch's band is spray-painted with iridescent colors that change depending on the viewing angle, much like the skin of poisonous amphibians, and its color scheme is reminiscent of the blue-jeans poison dart frog (a type of strawberry poison dart frog, so named for its bright red body and blue legs), which is found throughout Panama and Costa Rica. 

It's rated water resistant to depths of up to 200m, with a shock-resistant structure, Bluetooth connectivity, solar charging, a white backlight with afterglow, and a tough sapphire crystal lens with anti-glare coating. It also has a dedicated diving mode, which measures dive and surface time intervals, and can store records for 30 dives.

Coming soon

The new watch is based on the analog GWF-A1000, and according to Casio fan morgan_gshock, who shared images from the release event, may be the last device in the series.

G-Central reports that the watch will be released in Japan in January 2023 for ¥137,500 (approximately $1,000). It's likely to be launched globally later in the year; we'll keep our ears to the ground and let you know as soon as Casio makes an announcement.

Casio has launched a new lineup of classic G-Shock watches inspired by the yellow and gray color scheme of the classic G-Shock DW-001J-9 – affectionately known as the 'Jason' due to a perforated design that reminded wearers in 1994 of the mask worn by serial killer Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movie franchise.

The holes in the original watch allowed air to reach a temperature sensor. This feature was removed from later iterations of the watch, but the holes remained.

It's the same classic 90s watch that inspired the new G-Shock G-B001, also launched this week, which has an ion-plated metal bezel that can be worn bare, or capped with a colorful plastic cover for a different look.

Turn back time

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, the new yellow watch series comprises five models: the DW-5610Y-9 with Casio's classic square face, the round DW-6900Y-9 based on the DW-6900 (the same design that inspired the 90s-style DW-6900 collaboration with Paradise Youth Club earlier this year), the analog GA-110Y-9A, and the compact GMD-S6900Y-9 and GMA-S110Y-9A.

The five watches (all of which are shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200m) are due to go on sale in Japan this month. Details of an international launch are yet to be announced.

Casio has unveiled a new G-Shock watch that puts a fresh spin on a classic 90s design with an ion-plated metal bezel that can be worn alone, or with a resin cover for a different look. As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the new G-Shock GA-B001 is a new twist on the DW-001 'Jason' design that debuted in 1994.

All three models in the GA-B001 series feature distinctive cutouts at the bottom of the bezel, which reminded wearers in the 90s of the hockey mask worn by serial killer Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movies and lent the watch its nickname.

Japanese site Fashion Press explains that the resin cover is inspired by capsule toys – mini collectibles in plastic shells that are dispensed from vending machines. The promotional video below demonstrates how the interchangeable bezel system works.

There will be three models in the initial GA-B001 lineup. The most striking of these, the G-B001MVE-9, has a rainbow-plated bezel, plus a detachable plastic cover in shades of orange and green. It's supplied with two bands that you can also switch between for a different look: one yellow, and one translucent blue.

The other two models, the G-B001MVA-1 and G-B001MVB-8, have more subdued colorways featuring shades of black, gray, silver, and gold.

These aren't GPS sports watches (if that's what you want, you'll need to check out a watch like the G-Squad Pro), but they do have Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to link it to the G-Shock Connected mobile app for tasks like switching between time zones and automatically correcting the time with a single tap.

The watches will go on sale in Japan on January 27. The G-B001MVE will be priced at ¥44,000 the gray and gold G-B001MVB at ¥33,000 and the black and silver G-B001MVA at ¥34,100. Official international prices and release dates have yet to be announced.

Casio has teamed up with The North Face and streetwear brand Supreme to create a new line of outdoor-ready G-Shock watches, plus winter clothing designed to show them off.

The collaboration is a new take on the classic G-Shock DW-6900, in vivid colors and decorated with The North Face and Supreme branding on the strap. The North Face's logo is also emblazoned on each watch's face, and the Supreme logo appears when the electroluminescent backlight is activated.

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, prices for the three watches have yet to be announced, but they will be available to buy in Supreme stores in the US and Japan/

The North Face and Supreme's Fall 2022 collection also includes a taped seam shell waterproof jacket with a three-layer nylon shell and taped seams, which has a transparent window so you can see your watch without pulling up the cuff.

There's also a half-zip hooded pullover, sweater, long-sleeved top. hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants, beanie hat, and a double sleeping bag for your next camping expedition (see out guide are double sleeping bags a good idea if you're considering investing in one).

Yesterday, Garmin launched the Instinct Crossover, a rugged GPS watch with both a digital display and physical hands. It has naturally drawn comparisons with watches in Casio's venerable G-Shock series (which turns 40 next year), but has Garmin done enough to win over die-hard Casio fans? 

So far, reception to the Instinct Crossover seems mixed. Some love the analog hands, but others think its 16.2mm thick case is just too chunky. Some are also put off by the price, which starts at $499.99 for the standard edition. That's substantially more than the all-digital Garmin Instinct 2, which starts at $349.99.

That chunky shell isn't too likely to put off G-Shock fans though, particularly since it's due to the Instinct 2 having a dual-layer bezel to protect against heat, cold and impacts.

Price isn't necessarily a dealbreaker for Casio fans either. The G-Shock lineup is enormous, with new digital and hybrid devices launched every season, and there's something for every budget. However, if GPS is essential, you'll need to check out the pricier G-Squad lineup, which is designed with sports in mind.

At first glance, the G-Squad GBA-900 looks similar to the Garmin Instinct Crossover, with a chunky case and physical hands over a digital display. However, the GBA-900 is much more limited when you peek inside.

For starters, although it's able to track pace and distance, it doesn't have its own GPS module. Instead, it piggybacks on your phone via Bluetooth. This means the watch is cheaper to manufacture, and can be made smaller and lighter, but can't track your whereabouts unless you also have your handset within Bluetooth range. Connected GPS also tends to be less accurate than on-board GPS.

Workout data syncs with the G-Shock Move app, but the watch is only really made for running, and you don't get the same deep training insights – particularly since the GBA-900 doesn't have a heart rate monitor.

Watches in the G-Squad GBD-H1000 series are more similar to the Instinct Crossover in terms of workout tracking, but have purely digital faces (no hands). They offer on-board GPS, heart rate monitoring, a compass, barometer/thermometer, altimeter, pedometer, and pedometer, though unlike the Instinct Crossover, there's no NFC for contactless payments.

Nor will you get in-depth training advice, different workout tracking modes, sleep monitoring, SpO2 tracking, stress monitoring, or other health tools provided by the Garmin Instinct Crossover. You can view your routes travelled using Casio's smartphone app, but you can't import routes or get directions on a GBD-H1000 watch. Watches in this series cost around $400, putting them right in between the Instinct Crossover and Instinct 2 in terms of price.

If you want a Casio with Garmin-style navigation, you'll need one from the G-Squad GSW-H1000 series. These are are true smartwatches that run Google Wear OS, and have digital-only displays.

There are dedicated tracking mode for road and trail running, road biking, mountain biking, general cycling, pool swimming, surfing, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, skiing, snowboarding, trekking, fishing, walking, and indoor workouts such as weightlifting. The watch monitors your heart rate, plus activity-specific stats (such as gradient, reps, and pace), all of which is synced with the G-Shock Move mobile app.

It's lacking some features you'd get with the Instinct Crossover, such as an SpO2 sensor, but also has some tools Garmin's watch lacks, such as a microphone for taking calls. You can make contactless payment via Google Pay, which is more widely supported than Garmin Pay, and you can also install apps from the Google Play Store, such as Strava and Komoot. It's an impressive watch, but at $699 it's $100 pricier than the Instinct Crossover.

So could the Instinct Crossover win over a G-Shock fan? It's quite possible. It's certainly in the right price range, and its hybrid design and sports-tracking chops mean it fills a gap in Casio's current lineup. It remains to be seen how well the Crossover sells, but right now it seems to offer something new that Casio doesn't currently match.

Casio has revealed a new G-Shock watch that takes inspiration from traditional Japanese swordmaking techniques. Like the recently revealed glowing 'solar flare' G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-2040FR-1A and MTG-B3000FR-1A, the new G-Shock MRG-B2000GA-1A was released to celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary. 

As Casio fan site G-Central explains, the MRG-B2000GA-1A is a limited edition run of 500 pieces, and has a unique bezel pattern that echoes the wavy Ayasugi grain seen on traditionally forged steel sword blades. 

Rather than steel, the watch's bezel is made from pure titanium and Ti64 titanium, treated using a recrystallizing process and arc ion plating to create a pattern that's different on each piece.

The watch's case has a pattern that resembles the visible martensite crystals (nie) seen on some sword blades, with a deep hardening and titanium carbide treatment to help it shrug off shocks and knocks.

Specs and price

It's not a GPS watch, but will have Bluetooth connectivity so you can adjust settings and sync them time through your smartphone. It'll also offer all the usual timekeeping functions you'd expect from a G-Shock watch, such as world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, and daily alarm.

It will also have a hand shift function, which moves the hands out of the way so you can more easily see the subdials, and a Super Illuminator LED backlight.

The MRG-B2000GA-1A will go on sale in Japan next month for ¥935,000 (roughly $6,300). International pricing and availability has yet to be announced.

Casio has released a pair of special edition G-Shock watches to celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary, with a design inspired by solar flares, and marbled with glowing phosphorescent material. The launch comes just days after Casio revealed a new Earth-themed G-Shock, with a blue ion-plated finish designed to resemble clouds swirling over oceans

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, the bezels of the new Mudmaster GWG-2040FR-1A and MTG-B3000FR-1A have lava-like red and black colorways in daylight, but glow in shades of yellow, orange ang green at night thanks to phosphorescent particles embedded in layers of glass and carbon. The swirls of glowing material are unique to each watch bezel, so no two of the limited-edition watches are exactly alike. 

The watch cases are made from black ion-plated stainless steel, engraved on the back with the G-Shock 40th anniversary logo.

The Mudmaster GWG-2040FR-1A is water-resistant to 20 meters and, as you'd expect, designed to shrug off mud and dirt. It's shockproof thanks to Casio's carbon core guard structure, which protects the components from knocks and drops, and includes solar charging for extra long battery life.

Hikers will appreciate its quad sensor, including digital compass (with bilateral calibration and magnetic declination correction), altimeter, barometer, and thermometer.

The MTG-B3000FR-1A offers the same water resistance and solar charging, and links to the Casio Watches smartphone app for functions like automatic time adjustment and easy customization of watch settings. You can also use the watch to find your phone when the two are connected via Bluetooth.

G-Shock's 40th anniversary is actually in 2023, so we're expecting to see a lot more special models over the coming months.

Casio has revealed a new G-Shock dual display watch inspired by Earth as seem from space. The GM-110EARTH-1A has a special ion-plating treatment on the bezel, designed to evoke the look of clouds whirling over the land and sea, and other touches reminiscent of the planet seen from space.

As reported by Casio fan site G-Central, the new watch is currently only listed on Casio's Chinese G-Shock website, and there's no release date at the time of writing, but it's expected to go on sale soon. It's priced at 2,290 yuan, which is approximately $320.

In addition to its IP treated metal bezel, the watch as circular patterns printed on the mineral glass lens, intended to resemble to aurora, plus satellite-shaped hands for the subdial. The watch's case back has a black ion-plated finish, and is engraved with an aerial view of the Earth at night. It's all packaged up in a gift box shaped like an astronaut's helmet.

This isn't a GPS watch, but it offers the usual array of features you'd expect from a G-Shock device, including a stopwatch and countdown timer, universal time for 31 cities around the world, and five daily alarms.

It's water resistant to 200m, with a shockproof design to protect its components from drops and knocks, and includes a white LED backlight.

Casio has launched a new solar-powered G-Shock Rangeman watch with a design inspired by endangered polar bears, as part of a collaboration with international environmental group Earthwatch.

As reported by Casio fan blog G-Central, the new Casio G-Shock GW-9408KJ-7JR is a limited edition design with an off-white bezel made from phosphorescent material that glows blue in the dark, with blue accents.

It isn't a GPS watch, but it does have several features to appeal to runners, hikers and swimmers, including a barometric altimeter, compass, five alarms, timer, stopwatch, and LED backlight. It also has a tough shockproof design that's water resistant to 20ATM, making it suitable for high-impact watersports and recreational diving.

Love the Sea and Earth

It comes in a special box and drawstring bag made from recycled paper. It's due to go on sale in Japan in November, priced at ¥58,300 including tax. International prices and release dates have yet to be announced.

The new watch is part of the Casio's ongoing Love the Sea and Earth series of G-Shock and Baby-G watches. Other devices in the lineup include the leopard-patterned G-Shock GST-S310WLP-1A9 and Mudmaster GWG-1000WLP-1A, made to support the efforts of nonprofit Wildlife Promising.

Casio has unveiled a pair of new G-Shock watches just in time for this year's ski season, complete with suitably wintry color schemes. 

As Casio fan blog G-Central reports, the Casio G-Shock GM-5600LC-7 and GM-S5600LC-7 are a pair of matching men's and women's watches released as part of Casio's Seasonal Pair Collection 2022.

Casio explains that the two were inspired by the first ever set of matching G-Shocks, which launched back in 1996. The new models feature a metal bezel with blue accents, a white resin band, and a face with a fabric-effect print reminiscent of your favorite winter sweater.

Time to chill

These aren't GPS watches, so they won't be able to track your adventures on the slopes (for that you'll need something like a multi-sports Garmin watch), but they're still packing plenty of handy tools. Both are shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200m, making them fine for swimming (whether you want to brace yourself for the open water or stay comfortable in the pool.

Like all G-Shock watches, both the new winter models have a stopwatch, multi-function alarm, full auto calendar, and countdown timer. They also boast blue LED backlights, with flashing alerts.

Casio has launched a new restoration program that will get your vintage G-Shock watch looking like new. This service debuted in Japan and Taiwan, and is available for a limited time in the US, from October 1 to November 30.

As Casio fan blog G-Central reports, the restoration service s available for six classic G-Shock models: the DW-5000C, DW-5200C, DW-5600C, DW-5800, WW-5100C, and WW-5300C. It costs $100 plus tax and return postage, and the whole process can take three months to complete. 

This isn't intended for watches that are completely non-functional (unless you only want to wear yours as an accessory), but it should give working devices a new lease of life.

What happens

During the restoration, Casio will open up the metal inner case back, replace the battery, install a new rubber gasket seal, and screw it back together. The company will then fit a new resin case, which will be installed with fresh screws, and fit a new band and band loop.

The fully refurbished watch will be returned to you in a special package, including a message from G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe.

Watch repair is complex and requires specialist skills, meaning it's tricky to carry out at home even if you have the necessary tools and components. It's therefore good to see a company offering repair and maintenance as a service to help extend the life of products well outside the usual warranty period. If this two-month scheme proves successful, perhaps Casio will choose to extend it for longer, and to other models.

Casio has launched a new special edition G-Shock watch designed for use in the great outdoors – particularly in dense woodland. The Casio G-Shock GAE-2100WE-3A comes with interchangeable bezels in black and camouflage print, and swappable bands in camo and blaze orange. The camo band is made from resin, while the orange is made from recycled Cordura fabric.

As Casio fan site G-Central reports, the GAE-2100WE-3A features a screwless bezel design and quick-release bands, making it easy to switch between styles.

The case has the same octagonal shape as the GAE-2100, and according to Casio, "is a model that imagines an adventurer traveling in the wilderness". Its face has a dual analog/digital design, with two white LED backlights and a function that moves the hands aside if they are obscuring the digital display.

The watch is currently listed in Japan for ¥27,500 (about $190), with shipping expected later this month. International pricing and availability is likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

This isn't a GPS watch, so you won't be able to use it to track your whereabouts in the backcountry (for that you'll need something like one of the best Garmin watches), but it does offer world time for 48 cities, full auto calendar, timer, stopwatch, and five alarms.

It's also shockproof, and water resistant to 20atm, making it suitable for swimming, high-impact watersports, and scuba diving.

A Lego fan has combined his love of the plastic construction toy with his passion for field watches to create a version of the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster fashioned from the little bricks – and now he wants your help to make it a reality.

Lego Ideas is a website that allows people to submit their concepts for Lego construction kits, which they can build using real bricks of a virtual tool. Members of the public can vote for their favorite ideas, and if they receive enough support, there's a chance that their concepts could be turned into actual kits. One of the most recent successes is a set based on The Office, with 15 minifig characters.

Pedro Jimenez decided to think on a smaller scale for his submission, and created a very convincing Lego replica of the G-Shock Mudmaster complete with a stand and replacement strap. 

"I am fascinated with G-Shock watches series, in particular with Mudmaster ones because they are the perfect combination of toughness, elegance, bulkiness and precision that resembles very well any Lego creation," sad Jiminez. "Detailing the original watch design, it is appreciable block structure and several layers of materials that make very easy to think of Lego."

G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-2000: first impressions

Whether the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-2000 is a true field watch is perhaps debatable, but there’s no denying that it’s a popular choice amongst modern military servicemen and women – so it undeniably sees plenty of use “in the field”. Plus, the qualities that make it fit for the battlefield also ensure it’s a great choice for life in the great outdoors. That’s why we’ve included it in our best field watches buying guide.

It uses Casio’s patented Carbon Core Guard resin case, which incorporates carbon fiber for increased strength without additional weight. The GWG-2000 is actually 1.9mm slimmer and 13g lighter than its predecessor (the GWG-1000), while the lugs, shock absorbers and internal casing also now incorporate carbon fiber elements. Inside the case, the watch module is suspended in a hollow structure to protect against impact and vibration. Redesigned pusher buttons with stainless steel button pipes and a silicone buffer further improve overall resistance to muck and mud.

The chunky bezel ring and knurled screw-down crown are both made of stainless steel. Screw-down forged carbon bezel guards at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock protect the sapphire crystal, which is finished with an anti-reflective coating for maximum legibility. A patented gasket design provides a water resistance rating of 200m (20 bar). The watch also comes on a robust resin strap that is highly resistant to wear and tear, though it is fairly stiff and unforgiving, especially when you first strap it on the wrist.

Like most G-Shocks, the Mudmaster has plenty of wrist presence, by which we mean it is hefty and bulky. If you’re slender of wrist, it’s probably going to look a bit silly. But perhaps that won’t bother you, especially if you’re the sort of user who prioritizes function over form.

And talking of function, the new Mudmaster has plenty of features. It boasts a five-day alarm with snooze function: an optional hourly beep; an automatically adjusting calendar; a battery level indicator with auto power save if the watch is low on charge; a 60-minute countdown timer, date and weekday display; analog time with a Neobrite luminous coating on the watch hands and indices for low-light illumination (improving on the previous version and other Mudmasters in the current range), multi-band 6 automatic atomic timekeeping; LED backlight with selectable 1.5 or 3-second duration; a 24-hour stopwatch accurate to 1/100th second (with elapsed time, split time and 1st-2nd place times); and a world time function that displays the current time in major cities and regions across the globe.

An in-built sensor is also able to give altitude, barometric and temperature readings. The watch measures barometric pressure, which is converted to relative altitude, measuring from -700 to 10,000m (-2,300 to 32,800ft) within a range of 1m or 5ft. The watch also measures ambient air pressure and presents this on a display to indicate weather patterns. The thermometer can measure air temperature from -10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F). Lastly, a direction sensor detects magnetic north, displaying both this and your current direction on the watch face, in compass points and degrees.

G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-2000: in the field

Do all the fancy gizmos work? Yes, mostly. Once calibrated, the compass is impressively accurate, and the barometer indicates rising or dropping pressure, giving you a clue as to whether bad weather is likely to move in. The altimeter is slightly less precise – at least, it didn’t always correspond with the spot heights indicated on our map. We also had mixed results with the temperature sensor. 

But in terms of timekeeping, the Mudmaster is spot on. Its solar quartz movement is accurate to within 15 seconds per month. This is further aided by an automatic hand adjustment function, which checks the home position of the hands every hour and corrects if necessary, counteracting any discrepancies arising from impact or magnetic forces. Basically, you have no excuse to be late ever again.

Unfortunately, though the time is easy to read, the other functions aren’t always the easiest to navigate. At least a new “Smart Access Interface” mdoes make things slightly easier; rather than cycling through the menu options with endless button presses, you can just rotate the crown for faster and more intuitive control over all functions.

A couple of other modifications have also been added to aid general user-friendliness. First up is a hand shift function, which means that you can push a button to temporarily move the hands move away from the LCD display – helping you to see what you’re doing. And if you’re using the watch at night, an auto light feature can be activated to automatically illuminate the watch face when you tilt your wrist towards you. That proved handy for checking the time while huddled in a warm sleeping bag, when rain hammering on the flysheet of the tent woke us up at 3am.

In design terms the Mudmaster offers few concessions to style or looks. Whether this is the watch for you depends on how you feel about its chunky dimensions and the unapologetically robust build. But if you’re looking for rugged reliability in all environments, plus a fair bit of on-board tech, then there’s probably no better all-round outdoor watch out there.

I would call it a genuine upgrade on the older GWG-1000, being fractionally slimmer and lighter, with better lume. The price tag is comparable to an entry-level Swiss-made automatic watch or higher-end GPS watches. But the GWG-2000 is tougher than either of those alternatives, and I reckon it’ll outlast anything made by Garmin or Suunto. And though a regular steel watch is going to be a bit more wearable and versatile, not even the most complex of mechanical movements has as much adventure-ready functionality as the G-Shock Mudmaster.

Casio has launched a new all-metal G-Shock watch with a tough titanium case, earth-toned camo pattern, and a solar cell that keeps its battery topped up even in weak sunlight.

Watch batteries can be a real issue when you're travelling in the backcountry. Many of the best GPS watches can go several days or even weeks between charges, but unless you invest in a solar charger, you may find yourself suffering from range anxiety as the days wear on.

The new Casio G-Shock GMWB5000TVB1 doesn't have its own GPS chip to keep track of your location (for that you'd need a smartwatch like Casio's G-Squad Pro, which is powered by Google Wear OS), but its tough design and ability to extract all the power it needs from only a faint glimmer of sunshine make it a practical choice for life on the trails.

It also has Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to link to Casio's G-Shock Connected app, which updates the time automatically four times per day. 

The GMWB5000TVB1's brown and dark gray ion-plated finish (which extends over both the watch's case and band) is achieved using a seven-stage process of masking, layering, and engraving. It's topped off with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

You also get all the usual features you'd expect from a G-Shock watch, including shock and drop resistance, water resistance to depths of 200m (twice as deep as most sports watches), five daily alarms, a countdown timer, stopwatch, calendar that updates the date automatically, and world time.

It will be available to buy for $1,700 (about £1,400) in July direct from gshock.com, from the G-Shock store in Soho, and from third-party retailers.

One of the most popular Casio G-Shock watches is getting a total overhaul for 2022, with a new full metal case and strap that should make it tougher and more resistant to scuffs and scratches when you're exploring outdoors.

The news, which comes from Japanese fan blog Great G-Shock World via G-Central, suggests that the new watch will be called the GA-B001, and is likely to have a list price of around 70,000 yen when it launches in the fall, which equates to roughly $520.

The original Casio G-Shock GA-2100 became known as the 'CasiOak' thanks to its octagonal face, which bears a fleeting resemblance to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Subsequent watches in the series traditionally have a resin case with a metal coating and a resin wrist band, but it seems like the new model will break with tradition.

Masters of Metal

While the GA-B001 almost certainly won't be able to track your location like the best GPS watches, it's likely to have Bluetooth connectivity that will allow it to sync with the Casio smartphone app so you can make adjustments to its settings.

There aren't yet any photos, and we don't know whether the watch will come in stainless steel or titanium, but Casio has form with both. The Masters of Metal series are metallic takes on Casio's traditional square-faced digital watches. 

The watches in this series feature resin shock absorbers between the case and bezel to soak up knocks, and screw-lock case backs with a carbon coating to resist corrosion. It seems likely that Casio will stick with these same design features for the GA-B001, but only time will tell. We're keeping our ear to the ground for more news.
