Let’s be honest – a great camping trip doesn’t always come with a good night’s sleep. No matter how exhausted you are when you crawl inside your sleeping bag at the end of a long day, how often have you found yourself awakened just an hour or two later by the annoying rustling noise of your sleeping pad, realizing you’re cold and your hip hurts? For a good night’s sleep, you really need a few things: quiet, comfort and warmth – but that’s a lot to ask from an inflatable sleeping pad, is it not? Well, not with Therm-a-Rest’s updated NeoAir XLite NXT it isn’t. Therm-a-Rest’s bestselling sleeping pad just got quieter, thicker and warmer than ever before – and it won’t take up any more room in your pack.

When the NeoAir arrived on the market back in 2009, it quickly set the standard for lightweight, durable and packable comfort in the backpacking and camping community – but even with their instant success, Therm-a-Rest wasn’t content to simply sit back and keep letting us sleep on the same old pad. Soon, the NeoAir XLite would come along, combining much sought-after durability and comfort in a pack size small enough to fit easily in a backpack, which meant even ultralight backpackers could get in on the overnight comfort.

Yet still, Therm-a-Rest recognized there was room for improvement. Diehard fans wanted more comfort, less noise and yet they didn’t want to sacrifice the lightweight versatility of their favorite sleeping pad. So in 2023, one year after celebrating 50 years of the Therm-a-Rest brand, the NeoAir XLite has been relaunched based on customer feedback and incorporating new technology with updates that propel it from a must-have to a can’t-live-without.

Meet the NeoAir XLite NXT: thicker, warmer and six times quieter than the original, delivering a more restful nights’ sleep so you can wake up with more energy for the day ahead. Best of all, it won’t take up any more room in your pack or slow you down on the trail. Read on to discover all the exciting updates to Therm-a-Rest’s bestselling sleeping pad.

Thicker and warmer than ever

The next generation XLite takes lightweight comfort in the backcountry to another level, with an additional 1.2cm of loft, meaning you’re further away from the cold, hard ground. Therm-a-Rest’s innovative Tri Core Matrix™ construction, which gives this pad its increased loft, also means you get a warmer pad for those clear nights when the temperatures dip. Compared to the previous model, the NeoAir XLite NXT has an R-Value of 4.5 (up from 4.2), making this a solid choice for three-season camping and cold sleepers who need a little extra protection.

Ok, you’re thinking, but how much extra weight do I have to haul down the trail to enjoy this added plushness and warmth? Incredibly, both updates come with no additional weight, still barely tipping the scales at 13 oz – or the same as that can of soup you’ve brought to heat up over the campfire.

Reduced noise

With the NeoAir XLite NXT, Therm-a-Rest has done away with virtually all of that annoying creaking each time you change position. The XLite NXT eliminates almost 83% of noise compared to the previous model, which means you can do away with your ear plugs, enjoy a deeper sleep and let the birds wake you up in the morning.

More versatile

Everyone knows that not all camping trips are created equally. Whether you’re an ultralight fastpacker looking to trim every spare ounce and inch in your pack, or taking the family outdoors and just looking for an easy and comfortable sleep system, Therm-a-Rest has catered to all types of camper. The  new XLite NXT is available in both mummy-shape to save space, and rectangular shape for more room to spread out at night with hort, regular, wide and large sizing to choose from so you can tailor your pad to your exact needs.

If you’re camping in the spring, summer and fall, the NeoAir XLite NXT all but guarantees a great night’s sleep without adding to your pack weight – something you may never have thought possible before. Both the XLite NXT and XLite NXT Max are complete with all of the above updates, as well as the features Therm-a-Rest customers have come to expect – including highly durable Nylon fabric and the easy-to-use WingLock™ valve.
