The Daiwa 12 ft 2.75 lb Powermesh Barbel Rod is a serious contender for when you need a bit more grunt for your barbel fishing.

Whether you need it for big rivers, more challenging conditions or bigger fish, it’s built on a high-grade carbon blank with 1K woven carbon, and I would say it’s got the power for straight lead, feeder work and PVA bagging.

Combined with a progressive, fish-playing cushion, Daiwa have played safe with their 4 oz casting weight rating, as you’re likely to find a bit more ‘in the bank’ if you need to step-up.

It comes with a ‘straight’ top, as expected.

This is a rod that I can see being fished in multiples on alarms on big rivers. The line rating of 10-15 lb, makes perfect sense. This isn’t a tool that’s going to fall short, coming with a Fuji cork handle, Fuji DPS reel seat, stainless steel frame guides and lightweight, LS ceramic rings.

It’s a specialist product for the more extreme side of barbel fishing, but as we all know, barbel often like to feed when there’s a ‘few feet on’, when nailing a bait down can require a bit more lead.
