This NGT Pop-up Carp Cradle is a good replacement if your current mat system is too bulky for short trips, or if you still haven’t made the move to an unhooking mat with sides.

It folds up pretty compact, it’s very well padded and the frame pops-up and folds away in seconds.

Unfolding the mat instantly makes the cradle ‘take shape’, and all you do is slot the fish-friendly, 4 cm-plus-thick mat inside.

I like the way in which it pops up quickly, and the fact that it comes with a mesh base, to allow for drainage.

With the base measuring 108 x 50 cm, it’ll accommodate plenty of specimens, and help retain them, thanks to the 13 cm-high sides and even higher raised ends.

It comes with two pegging points, one at either end, for pegging down in your swim, and two heavy-duty screw pegs, which live in a pocket in the zip-up bag it’s supplied in. A useful piece of kit and a great price.
