Hoka has redesigned its Mafate Speed trail running shoe for 2022, and the new model is on sale now. The Mafate Speed 4 is available in men's and women's sizes for £160 (US prices are yet to be announced, but $180 seems likely based on previous releases).

Hoka might be best known for its rocker-style road running shoes, shaped to help your foot roll smoothly from heel strike to toe-off, but in recent years it's also ventured off the beaten path with tougher lugged soles for purchase on slick surfaces.

The Mafate Speed 4 features a single-layer woven jacquard mesh upper for breathability, reinforced with a rubber toe cap, and a gusseted tongue to keep out grit and dirt. It also features a Vibram sole for the best possible grip, with sizeable 5mm lugs.

The shoe's midsole has received an upgrade with new Profly foam, which Hoka claims makes the Mafate Speed 4 noticeably lighter and more responsive than its predecessor. We hope to put it through its paces on the trails and bring you a full review soon.
