The North Face Women’s 100 Glacier Full-zip Fleece: first impressions

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – The North Face Women’s 100 Glacier Full-zip Fleece adheres to brand’s mantra with another simple and classic design. And it works, which is why we selected the Glacier for our best women’s fleece jackets buying guide.

The Glacier is super-soft to touch, has a flattering feminine cut and holds its shape after multiple washes. The slim cut of the Glacier makes it ideal for use as a mid layer, and it’s also comfortable to wear under backpacks and harnesses when you’re in the mountains, while two zipped pockets hold essentials on the go.

The North Face Women’s 100 Glacier Full-zip Fleece: in the field

We like having the Glacier packed in our backpack for nigh-on any adventure outdoors – it brings welcome warmth and fits on top of a base layer and under down jackets or women's waterproof jackets without a fuss, and takes up barely any room in a pack.

It is also surprisingly tough, withstanding thorns and general use and abuse well – although it’s worth choosing a darker colorway if you do plan to get it dirty.

Our only criticism of the design of the Glacier is that the neck is cut on the wide side, and doesn’t help to trap in body heat when fully zipped up as other, snugger designs can.

That said, if you’re after a classic and affordable fleece mid layer, this is a quality choice, and one that’s made with 100% recycled polyester (see also: why is layering important?). A half-zip pullover jacket version is also available, and both come in a range of lovely neutral colors.
